Class structure, dressed in fur and feathers. A lion in gold brocade plays host while a doe and a dove join him for champagne in a pocket of cloud, and the whole scene runs on the tension between civility and instinct. It's anthropomorphic surrealism with a wink: opulence as performance, the banquet as social ritual. The painting borrows from baroque portraiture and old fairy-tale illustration, then warps the scale and setting until it floats. For collectors who like art that tells a story sideways.
