Mythology with the brakes cut. Horus and Anubis abandon temple solemnity to race goat-hauled chariots through a palace garden, and the painting treats the gods like rival athletes instead of icons. There's wit in it. The thick impasto and clashing warm color give the whole thing a fevered, sun-drunk energy that sits between ancient ritual and roadside spectacle. For collectors drawn to reimagined history and work that bends the sacred toward the playful, this one rewards a long look. The leaping lion-headed figure in the back is the joke you catch second.
